Sugar Cane Alley
Sugar Cane Alley is the first feature-length film of Martinican director Euzhan Palcy. Based on Jozeph Zobel’s novel La Rue Cases-Nègres, the film offers an authentic dive into 1930s Martinique. It addresses questions around education, colonisation, and the quest for emancipation. Lauded for both its sensitivity and its accuracy, it has received numerous awards, including the César for Best First Work in 1984.
