One evening during the Occupation, Martin, a jobless but good man, has to carry four suitcases full of meat to the other side of Paris. His usual accomplice having been arrested, he asks a stranger, Grandgil, to help. But he soon turns out to be a troublemaker, and the trip becomes perilous.
